I just installed 8.04 on an old laptop, and am happy to report that it was easier than I anticipated. Easier than previous installs that I've done over the years, and much easier than Windows.

Dell Inspiron B130
Celeron M
2GB RAM
60GB hard drive
Dell 1370 wireless adapter
CD/DVD writer
15.4" display (1280x800)

The screen resolution was set properly during the install process. Wifi didn't work initially, I plugged it into my router so the updates could download. After the updates I rebooted and it picked up the wireless card. It loaded the drivers on its own. One more reboot and that worked, too.

The touchpad works as expected, double tap to select, and drag finger on the side to scroll. All Dell keys work as expected, screen brightness, volume, mute CRT/LCD, etc.

Seriously, Windows is not this easy. I'm loving it.

Oh, one other note. I use Dvorak, and Ubuntu actually does a better job of handling that than Windows, too. With Windows you have to login with QWERTY, then it switches to Dvorak. I got used to that, but it always bugged me. With Ubuntu, when you set it to Dvorak, its always Dvorak. Details make the difference.

Thanks,
Chris
