I ran into a similar nonsense too. but mine was a uuid of a partition that was diff then what fstab had.
booted into a live cd then changed the uuid and this error still shows, but the system...
i tried and once the iso is mounted, I could NOT play the .m2ts file in VLC player. BUT, it did play mPlayer. Anybody know what's up w/ vlc 1.1.9?

Or u can type "export AVAHI_COMPAT_NOWARN=1" at the command line (don't need sudo).
and that should stop the error messages. its not fix, but i don't think either side is about to budge anytime soon...
the fix is to remove 'wins' from the hosts: line in /etc/nsswitch.conf
